Several local cities are holding ceremonies to honor Remembrance Day and reflect on the sacrifices of those who served. On November 11, most federal services and federally regulated businesses like banks and postal services will be closed.
An event recognizing Indigenous veterans will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 7, at Battlefield House Museum and Park, 77 King St.
“This service acknowledges and commemorates the contributions made by Indigenous veterans in service to Turtle Island,” the City of Hamilton said in a news release.
The ceremony at the Eagles Among Us Indigenous Monument will be followed by light refreshments featuring Indigenous flavors. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs due to limited seating.
On November 9, the garrison parade starts at 10:15 a.m., followed by a service at 10:45 a.m. The parade, including Hamilton veterans, garrison units, and cadet corps, will begin at John Foote V.C. N. and proceed south to Gore Park on King Street E. The service will be held at Veteran’s Place in Gore Park.
