Australia's Most Haunted House Hits the Market

Dare to buy Australia's most haunted house? Monte Cristo, a Victorian-era manor located in the rural town of Junee, NSW, is now for sale for a brave buyer willing to overlook its eerie reputation.

The Manor's Haunted History

Monte Cristo, about 470 km southwest of Sydney, has a colorful history spanning 140 years, with stories claiming up to ten ghosts haunt the estate. It is one of Riverina’s most famous properties.

The manor has functioned as a museum and tourist site, offering tours and overnight stays for visitors intrigued by its spooky past.

Resident Experiences

"I've had a hand on my shoulder," said Olive Ryan, who lived in Monte Cristo for 50 years. "I've had my name called when I've been here by myself. It's nothing to hear footsteps on the balcony and you go out and there's no one there."

Olive believed she sensed the presence of the home's original owners, Christopher and Elizabeth Crawley, who died in 1910 and 1933, respectively, and are said to haunt the house.

Olive's son, Lawrence Ryan, added that he always felt like someone was watching him while growing up in the mansion.

Estate Features

The double-storey residence at 1 Homestead Lane includes original fireplaces and a ballroom, preserving much of its historical charm alongside its ghostly fame.

Monte Cristo combines rich heritage with paranormal legend, making it a unique property for the right buyer.
