Nokia, Ericsson Peg Automation as Next Open RAN Level

At TIP FYUZ 2025 in Dublin, leading vendors showcased compatible products as part of their core proposition, highlighting automation as a key next step for the sector.
Robert Backhouse, CTO Americas at Nokia, argued the impact of openness on infrastructure players is more one of evolution than revolution.
Backhouse noted operators have developed "hundreds of applications" in recent years, a "closed ecosystem" that must now be transitioned to Nokia's new platform and converted into rApps.
Nokia aims to disrupt the industry through a recent partnership with chip company Nvidia.
