Pottsville Man Accused of Sparking Standoff Awaits Mental Health Evaluation

A 60-year-old Pottsville man, Liptok Sr., faces felony charges for bomb threats, terroristic threats, and possession of a firearm.

He is accused of sparking an hours-long police incident outside his home in August 2023, after threatening to release a grenade, prompting a large law enforcement response.

Liptok, currently serving time in State Correctional Institution-Mahanoy on a separate case, appeared before Judge Christina E. Hale for a hearing to determine his competency to stand trial.
