Passenger Vehicle Collides with Train in Newsoms
A passenger vehicle collided with a train in Newsoms on Friday afternoon, resulting in the car being totaled, but no injuries were reported.
The driver is facing a summons for failing to yield at the operational crossing, according to the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).
Our understanding from the investigation — the lights for the crossing were operational, and the driver of the passenger vehicle is being issued a summons for failure to yield right of way.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:19 p.m. and the scene was expected to be clear within 15 to 20 minutes after 2 p.m.
The train was able to come to a complete stop a little further down the track from the intersection, with no significant damage reported.
