Some people living at Kadena Air Base on Okinawa sheltered in place for about an hour after unexploded ordnance was discovered near one of the installation’s oldest buildings.

First responders worked near Building 78, formerly the Skoshi Tiger Inn, where the ordnance was found.

The 18th Wing issued three alerts through the Air Force Connect mobile application, notifying residents of the discovery and directing them to initially evacuate within 500 feet of the site, before downgrading the response to shelter in place.

Unspecified ordnance was found near Building 78 in the Clark Vista neighborhood.
