Canon EOS R6 Mark III – 33MP Sensor & 7K Open Gate Internal RAW Recording

Canon has introduced the EOS R6 Mark III, a camera that blends many features from the Canon EOS C50 with a design more tailored for still photography while retaining strong video capabilities.

This model follows the R6 Mark II announced over three years ago, with the original R6 launched in July 2020. Like the EOS C50, the R6 Mark III supports 7K Open Gate Internal RAW recording at up to 30p, 4K video at up to 120p, and 2K footage at up to 180p.

Sensor and Processor

The EOS R6 Mark III shares the same 32MP 3:2 full-frame sensor as the EOS C50, an upgrade from the 24.2MP CMOS sensor used in the previous Mark II model. However, this sensor does not include Dual Gain Output (DGO) or the back-illuminated stacked CMOS technology found in higher-end models like the EOS C80, C400, and R3.

“One of the reasons a lot of companies are now utilizing back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensors is that they allow for better AF performance.”

The camera is powered by the DIGIC DV 7 processor, also used in Canon’s C50, C80, C400, C500 Mark II, and C300 Mark III cameras.

Summary

The EOS R6 Mark III provides a balance between advanced video recording features and a still-photo-friendly form factor, making it versatile for hybrid shooters.
