A devastating crash on Interstate 10 in Kendall County, Texas, on Monday afternoon claimed the lives of two young boys and a 23-year-old woman. The incident occurred near mile marker 524, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Authorities reported that a GMC Sierra pickup truck had pulled over on the right shoulder for reasons still under investigation when a semi-truck collided with the rear of the vehicle. The impact proved fatal for 23-year-old Giselle Cristobal and two boys, ages 3 and 4, who were pronounced dead at the scene.
The 31-year-old driver of the pickup was transported to a San Antonio hospital, while a 2-year-old girl was airlifted to another medical center. DPS confirmed that the semi-truck driver was not injured.
After the collision, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office temporarily closed the westbound lanes of I-10 near mile marker 534 to clear the scene. Motorists were urged to avoid the area and take alternate routes.
“Please expect significant delays and use alternate routes if possible,” officials said on Facebook. “We ask everyone to drive carefully and avoid the area to allow first responders to work safely.”
The highway reopened around 8:30 p.m. local time once first responders completed their operations, DPS confirmed.
