Paolo Vanoli revealed that he had only half a training session to prepare Fiorentina for their 2-2 draw against Genoa in Serie A on Sunday. He emphasized that no tactical changes will be made until the players master the basics.
Vanoli, appointed as Fiorentina’s new head coach on Friday following Stefano Pioli’s departure, faced Genoa just two days later in his debut match. The encounter ended in a 2-2 draw between two teams both struggling in the relegation zone.
Genoa were also under new management, with Daniele De Rossi taking over from Patrick Vieira earlier in the week.
“Coming in with half a training session wasn’t easy, so congratulations to the guys,” Vanoli told DAZN. “You have to start from the basics in these situations: spirit and togetherness. This must be our foundation. We need to regain the positivity that helps us avoid mistakes.”
Fiorentina have already conceded eight goals from set pieces this season, an area Vanoli admitted could not be corrected in the limited time before the weekend’s match.
Paolo Vanoli began his Fiorentina tenure with little preparation time, urging his players to focus on unity and fundamentals after a 2-2 draw against Genoa.
