Gov. Wes Moore Initiates Maryland Redistricting Efforts
As the midterm elections approach, Maryland Governor Wes Moore has announced the revival of a redistricting advisory commission to recommend new congressional maps.
The Governor’s Redistricting Advisory Commission, which typically meets every decade to redraw legislative and congressional maps based on Census results, will be chaired by Angela Alsobrooks, the former Prince George’s County executive.
My commitment has been clear from day one — we will explore every avenue possible to make sure Maryland has fair and representative maps.
Gov. Moore's initiative comes amid a national battle over voter maps, with U.S. President Donald Trump trying to prevent Democrats from gaining at least three more seats in Congress.
The commission's efforts are part of a larger national conversation about redistricting, with many states beginning the process mid-cycle.
