Mikie Sherrill Elected Governor of New Jersey
Mikie Sherrill has been elected the governor of New Jersey, defeating Republican Jack Ciattarelli.
Sherrill is the first woman governor of New Jersey in 25 years and the first democratic woman to hold the governor’s office.
She was declared the winner roughly 90 minutes after the polls closed, maintaining a comfortable lead throughout the night.
Sherrill beat Ciattarelli by 13 points, flipping five counties that had voted Republican in the 2024 Presidential election:
- Atlantic County
- Morris County
- Passaic County
- Cumberland County
- Gloucester County
Her strongest performance was in Essex County, where she beat Ciattarelli by over 76 percent.
Ciattarelli's strongest county was Ocean County, where he accumulated over 67 percent, but it was not enough to secure his victory.
