Charges Filed in Fatal Head-On Collision Near Crestview

A 23-year-old cab driver, Amanpreet Brar, has been charged with three offenses under the Territorial Motor Vehicles Act following a fatal collision on September 28.

The collision occurred on the Alaska Highway adjacent to the Crestview neighborhood in Whitehorse, resulting in the death of 64-year-old Ricky John and his dog. The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. when Brar's southbound minivan taxicab, which had a passenger, crossed a double solid line and crashed head-on into another vehicle.

According to the RCMP, Brar is accused of

driving left of the centre line and carelessly driving
. Both Brar and the passenger were hospitalized after the collision.

Brar is scheduled to make his first court appearance on November 18 in Whitehorse. The Yukon RCMP filed the charges in connection with the fatal two-vehicle collision.
