US Navy Commander Overseeing Venezuelan Boat Strikes Steps Down

Alvin Holsey's departure comes less than one year after he took over as commander of US Southern Command.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on social media that Adm. Alvin Holsey will step down as head of US Southern Command, a position he held for less than a year.

On behalf of the Department of War, we extend our deepest gratitude to Admiral Alvin Holsey for his more than 37 years of distinguished service to our nation as he plans to retire at year’s end.

Hegseth did not provide reasons for Holsey’s departure. The New York Times reported that Holsey had voiced concerns about the US military strikes in the Caribbean Sea.
