Well-prepared for the next pandemic with ventilation

Preparedness for the Next Pandemic with Ventilation

Adequate ventilation systems are crucial in protecting against viruses like COVID-19, especially for vulnerable groups in healthcare facilities, according to the P3Venti research programme coordinated by TNO.

The programme has significantly advanced our understanding of airborne viruses and ventilation systems, providing practical tools for informed decision-making in future pandemics.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, we implemented numerous measures despite still knowing little about how the virus behaved,”

says Roberto Traversari, senior advisor and researcher at TNO, who leads the Programme for Pandemic Preparedness and Ventilation (P3Venti), funded by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.

Based on the insights gained, seven recommendations have been formulated to enhance national preparedness for pandemics.
