A band of rain is expected to move across the Isle of Man on Tuesday between 6am and 9pm, prompting the Ronaldsway Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning for heavy rain.
The yellow warning, indicating the need for caution, covers the entire day on Tuesday. Rainfall is predicted to be between 20-30mm on lower ground, with up to 50mm possible in hill areas.
“Generally wet and windy on Tuesday with strengthening south to southeast winds bringing prolonged periods of often heavy rain. Rainfall totals look to be 20 to 30mm widely but up to about 50mm over the hills,” said Met Officer forecaster Adrian Cowin.
“Given the already saturated ground, there'll be a quick runoff of the rain to give areas of surface water flooding especially in prone places and in locations where drainage is already poor or blocked with autumn debris. River levels will rise quite quickly.”
The Met Office stated that the weather situation will continue to be closely watched to provide timely updates.
Author’s summary: A significant rain event with potential flooding is forecast for the Isle of Man on Tuesday, requiring vigilance due to the combination of heavy rain, saturated ground, and strong winds.
