Ariarne Titmus reveals the REAL reason she quit swimming aged just 25

Ariarne Titmus Reveals Why She Quit Swimming at 25

The Tasmanian swimming champion Ariarne Titmus, who became a household name after claiming her third individual gold medal at the Paris Olympics, has shared the emotional reason behind her sudden retirement from the sport at just 25 years old. The four-time Olympic gold medallist revealed she stepped away from professional swimming not out of fatigue, but for deeper personal reasons tied to love and family.

Choosing Life Beyond the Pool

When Titmus first announced her retirement, she hinted vaguely that certain aspects of her life had become “a little bit more important” than swimming. Now, she has clarified those priorities: her partner Mac Powell and her family.

“In my personal life — and this was really the crux of the decision — you have to be quite a selfish person to be an athlete,” Titmus told News Corp. “I've lived my life not caring that I never got to spend birthdays with friends or never being able to go to family events ... but I wasn't willing to go back to the life where I made the decision to put my family second.”

A New Chapter of Happiness

Titmus said she met her partner shortly after the Paris Olympics and realized she didn’t want to sacrifice her personal life again for the demands of elite competition.

“I also met my partner right after the Paris Olympics. I wasn't willing to put that on the backburner,” she shared.
