Ariarne Titmus, the Olympic gold medallist, shared the one question she has not been asked since revealing her retirement from competitive swimming.
Unexpected Reaction to Retirement
In an interview on the Stellar podcast Something To Talk About, the four-time Olympic gold medallist expressed surprise at how people responded to her decision.
“I knew it would be a shock to a lot of people. It was quite out of the blue,” Titmus told podcast host Sarrah Le Marquand.
Despite expecting shock, she did not anticipate the swift spread of news and social media attention.
“The morning I hit post [on the announcement] at 8am Brisbane time, within half an hour, all over social media there were already articles and clips.”
No One Asking Why
Titmus highlighted that although she made the decision while still at her peak, no one has asked her why she retired at just 25 years old.
“I am at the top of my game, I’m still only 25, and I was concerned that the wider public wouldn’t understand my reasoning. But I haven’t had one person asking me why.”
Looking Toward New Challenges
She expressed satisfaction with her swimming accomplishments and readiness to pursue new challenges beyond the pool.
A significant moment came when Titmus worked in the commentary box during the World Championships in July, marking a pivotal point in her transition.
