Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is trying to attract New York City police officers by implying their current employer does not value them. On Thursday, ICE posted an ad on social media targeting NYPD officers, encouraging them to join a law enforcement agency that "respects you, your family, and your commitment."
The advertisement included a link to a recruitment page and stated that the country had been "invaded by criminals and predators."
The Trump administration’s attempt to draw officers from the NYPD comes shortly after the police department eased education and age requirements, which helped resolve its hiring and retention issues.
“NYPD OFFICERS: Join an agency that respects you, your family, and your commitment to serving in law enforcement.”
ICE’s recruitment strategy highlights tension between federal and local law enforcement agencies and underscores the challenges both face in maintaining adequate staffing.
ICE is actively recruiting NYPD officers amid its own hiring struggles, using portrayals of disrespect by the city’s police department to entice potential agents.
