Urgent recall for three tomato sauces that may cause 'fatal' food poisoning

Urgent Recall Issued for Tomato Sauces Linked to Botulism Risk

Consumers are being cautioned that certain jars of tomato sauce may pose a serious threat to health. The warning follows an urgent recall from First and Last Bakery, LLC, a Connecticut-based company, which has pulled three of its tomato-based pasta sauces from shelves due to potential contamination with Clostridium botulinum.

Products Affected

The recalled sauces were distributed across Connecticut and Massachusetts, primarily through Big Y and possibly other retailers, between September 22, 2025, and September 26, 2025. Each jar carries a “use by” date of September 26.

Reason for Recall

According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the products were manufactured without an approved production schedule. This means the process may not have been properly assessed to prevent the formation of deadly bacteria.

“Consuming the affected products could pose a serious health risk,” warned the FDA.

About Botulism

Botulism is a rare but potentially fatal type of food poisoning caused by toxins produced by Clostridium botulinum. The bacteria can develop when foods with low acidity are improperly processed. Even small amounts of the toxin can lead to severe illness.

Guidance for Consumers

Although no cases of illness have been reported so far, officials strongly urge anyone who purchased the affected items to return them to the store for a full refund. The FDA advises not to consume any of the recalled products under any circumstances.

Author’s Summary: Authorities warn consumers in Connecticut and Massachusetts to return recalled tomato sauces linked to potential botulism contamination before any health issues arise.
