A shift in weather patterns is bringing the first wave of cold air to the region this season. Residents of Marquette, Michigan, should prepare for changing conditions as several weather disturbances move through.
Starting tonight, light rain will spread from west to east and continue into early Friday morning. By midday, rain showers will taper off, transitioning to light lake-effect snow showers along the northwest belts. Snow accumulation should remain minor — around a quarter to half an inch.
The first true blast of cold air is expected this weekend as a deep trough in the jet stream allows cold Canadian air to push into the Upper Midwest. Low pressure accompanying the system will trigger the season’s first measurable snowfall on Sunday.
“A TV6 First Alert Weather Day will be in effect for Sunday due to slushy and slippery conditions.”
Snow will mainly affect the northern and northwestern wind belts, with a 20–50% chance of measurable accumulation in the north-central Upper Peninsula. Lake-effect snow showers are expected to persist into Monday.
Early winter arrives for Michigan’s Upper Peninsula this weekend, bringing rain, a sharp cold front, and the first light snow accumulation of the season.
