Production for the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, a collaboration between Sony Pictures and Nintendo, has officially started. Filming began on November 4, 2025, and is scheduled to continue until April 7, 2026, in Wellington, New Zealand.
The film is slated for a 2027 release. It is not Nintendo's immediate upcoming movie; the company will release The Super Mario Galaxy Movie in 2026 in partnership with Illumination, following the success of The Super Mario Bros. movie. Nintendo plans to steadily increase its movie output in the coming years.
