China's top market regulator, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), has described its investigation into Qualcomm's acquisition of Autotalks as a routine law enforcement activity.
According to an official, the investigation was conducted under the country's anti-monopoly law, despite the deal falling below standard notification thresholds, due to evidence of potential anti-competitive effects.
The authority intervened as it had evidence the merger could have an anti-competitive effect.
