Watch 2025's Biggest and Brightest Full Moon Live

The closest full moon of 2025, known as the Beaver Moon or Frost Moon, rises today, offering a spectacular supermoon event. You can catch this natural spectacle live through a free livestream hosted by the Virtual Telescope Project from Manciano, Italy.

Livestream Details

Event Highlights

The full moon will reach its peak phase at 8:19 a.m. EST (22:30 GMT) and its perigee, the closest point to Earth this year, at 221,726 miles (356,833 kilometers) away. This alignment creates the largest apparent full moon of 2025.

The supermoon will appear approximately 6% larger and 16% brighter than a typical full moon, a difference subtle enough to go unnoticed by many casual viewers. However, observing it near the horizon enhances the moon illusion, making it appear much larger.

"We will be observing it from Manciano, Italy, where our facility is based. Also, we will show the best full Moon images we collected over the years, particularly those with our satellite shining above the legendary monuments and skyline of Rome," said Gianluca Masi.

Why Watch the Supermoon?

Supermoons provide a unique viewing experience, blending astronomic events with cultural appreciation, and this event presents a chance to witness the moon’s proximity and brightness at its peak in 2025.
