Trey McPhaul has won the Gainesville Board of Education District 2 seat, narrowly defeating Amy McKinney Kerr with 50.76% of the vote, a margin of just 11 votes.
McPhaul, a local business owner and parent of children attending Gainesville City Schools, has stated that improving equitable access to learning opportunities will be a top priority for him.
"I think we have so many programs and things that exist currently and could be brought to the forefront,"
McPhaul said in an interview prior to the election, emphasizing his desire to make existing programs more accessible to all students in the school system.
