Rochester Regional Health has launched a free genetic screening program for adults, called Genowell, to assess cancer and heart disease risk.
Almost anyone over 18 is eligible to participate in the screening, which involves signing up online and undergoing a blood draw at a Rochester Regional Health lab.
The screening, run in partnership with Helix, looks at hereditary risks for breast, ovarian, colon cancer, and heart disease, with results provided in the My Care portal within a few weeks.
“It’s not just for the sake of knowing, if we know this and do the right monitoring and find the cancers early, we can actually positively influence people’s lives,”
says Dr. Prad Phatak, Medical Director of Precision Medicine at Rochester Regional Health.
