Effingham County Beats Statesboro 42-41 in OT Thriller

Effingham County rallied in the final seconds to defeat Statesboro 42-41 in overtime, securing a home game in the Class 5A state football tournament.

Tucker Perkins threw three TD passes to lead the comeback. The Rebels saw a fourth-quarter lead slip away but battled back Friday night to earn a home game in the first round of the upcoming Class 5A state football tournament.

The Rebels (8-2, 7-1 Region 1-5A) won their seventh straight game and finished with an identical region record as Brunswick but lost the tiebreaker to the Pirates. It was ECHS’ fifth straight win over the Blue Devils.
