Former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara Arrested
Former speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been arrested by the police for investigation into the gold smuggling case involving vapes (electronic cigarettes).
Mahara is accused of involvement in the smuggling of 9 kg of gold, which was hidden inside electronic cigarettes (vapes), and of organized crime.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police had been investigating the gold smuggling case and issued a statement mentioning Mahara's arrest.
He is also accused of repeatedly pressuring customs officials at Tribhuvan International Airport to release the gold consignment.
