Afghan Foreign Minister Invites Women Journalists to Press Meet After Backlash
Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has organized a second press conference in New Delhi, inviting women journalists after facing criticism for excluding them from a previous press meet on Friday.
Muttaqi, on a week-long visit to India, drew condemnation after photographs from the 10 October event showed a men-only briefing, with journalists, opposition leaders, and women’s rights groups criticizing the move.
The Editors Guild of India and the Indian Women’s Press Corps (IWPC) called the exclusion “highly discriminatory,” rejecting any justification based on diplomatic protocol or the Vienna Convention.
Muttaqi has scheduled another media interaction, this time inviting female reporters, in an attempt to address the backlash.
