The B.C. General Employees’ Union has reached a tentative deal with the provincial government, ending a nearly eight-week labour strike.
The agreement includes a general wage increase of three per cent for four years, along with other benefits for its 34,000 members, pending a final ratification vote.
"This tentative agreement is the result of the incredible strength and solidarity of BCGEU and [Professional Employees’ Union] members across the province," said BCGEU president Paul Finch.
Finch added that the deal shows that when workers stand together, they can make real progress, after members held the line for eight weeks, standing up for themselves, their families, and public services.
The union represents 34,000 members working in various public service roles.
