Tyre shops and mechanics in New Providence are overwhelmed with customers due to the deteriorating road conditions, exacerbated by recent rain. The roads, filled with deep craters and sunken asphalt, are causing damage to vehicles and resulting in significant repair costs.
From Carmichael Road to Eastern Road, and from Balfour Avenue to Robinson Road, the island's streets have become obstacle courses, leaving drivers frustrated and facing mounting repairs.
“Usually when people come here the tires be burst, it need to be plugged or more air, but usually it is burst so people buy more tires,”
According to The Tire Outlet on Faith Avenue, they now sell up to 30 tyres a day, with a significant spike in sales after heavy rain. Similarly, Rubberband Tires has seen a similar pattern, with almost every customer buying a new tire due to pothole-related damage.
“Lets just say if 100 persons come here a day, out of the 100 persons, it’s 100 buying a tire. Everyone who comes here has the same problem concerning the potholes,”
