Japan Requests OpenAI To Respect Anime & Manga Copyrights
The Japanese Government has formally requested OpenAI to refrain from infringing copyrights related to its anime and manga industries.
According to Minoru Kiuchi, Japan’s Minister of State for Intellectual Property and Artificial Intelligence Strategy, this request was made due to concerns about anime-style videos featuring existing characters created via OpenAI’s Sora 2 video generator.
The Japanese government has formally requested OpenAI to refrain from infringing on the copyright of Japanese cultural products like anime and manga.
- The request was made online by Japan’s Cabinet Office’s Intellectual Property Strategy Promotion Secretariat.
- Concerns arose after users created anime-style videos with Sora and posted them on social media platforms following Sora 2’s launch on September 30.
