Researchers Identify 4 Antiviral Drug Candidates for COVID-19

A team of researchers has screened over 250,000 drugs and natural compounds to find the most effective ones in stopping viral replication.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has only authorized three antivirals for treating COVID-19, and if the SARS-CoV-2 virus develops resistance to any of them, treatment options will be severely limited.

To address the limited treatment options, researchers conducted a comprehensive search, identifying four potential candidates for COVID-19 treatment.

Already, the effectiveness of one of the drugs is in question, and another’s efficacy hasn’t yet been pinned down.
