US Invests in Medical Gown Stockpile

Following the shortage of medical gowns during the COVID-19 pandemic, the US government is investing $350 million to manufacture and stockpile these essential items.

Six US companies will be responsible for producing the gowns, which will be stored in the Strategic National Stockpile. This purchase is part of a broader effort to replenish the stockpile's personal protective equipment, which was depleted early in the pandemic due to inadequate restocking in previous years.

The new gowns are among the many purchases the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response has made in recent years to restock the emergency coffers.

According to assistant secretary Dawn O’Connell, this investment is a key step towards ensuring the country is better prepared for future health crises.
