Michael Wainwright will take over as Chair of Cheltenham Racecourse from May 2026, following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
A lifelong fan of Jump racing, Michael has been a member of Cheltenham Racecourse's committee since 2019. He has a strong background in racing, having grown up visiting Bangor-on-Dee and Aintree racecourses. Michael co-owns several horses, including Ga Law, the winner of the 2022 Paddy Power Chase.
As a qualified Chartered Accountant, Michael has had a successful career in business. He joined his family's company, Boodles, in 1984 and served as Managing Director for many years. In 2024, he stepped down from day-to-day operations and took on the role of Executive Chairman.
Michael's experience and passion for racing make him an ideal candidate to lead Cheltenham Racecourse.
