Inside Selhurst: How engineers rebuilt 300 Electrostar trains without sending a single one off-site

Inside Selhurst: Refurbishment of Electrostar Trains

A £100 million project to refurbish over 300 Electrostar trains has been completed at the Selhurst depot.

The project, which took five years to complete, is believed to be the largest fleet upgrade in modern times.

The work was carried out in-house by GTR staff, rather than a third-party refurbishment company.

Train overhauls typically involve four main companies, but in this case, the job was brought in-house using GTR's existing Selhurst depot.

No single train was sent off-site during the refurbishment process.

The refurbished trains will be used across the Govia Thameslink (GTR) network, which includes Thameslink, Great Northern, Southern, and Gatwick Express.
