Raging creeks cut off evacuation routes in southwest Colorado as about 390 households are forced to flee

Flooding in Southwest Colorado Forces Evacuations

Heavy rain from Hurricane Priscilla has caused flooding in southwest Colorado, forcing approximately 390 households to evacuate.

The flooding has affected communities north of Vallecito Reservoir, with up to 100 homes impacted, according to La Plata County and the Upper Pine River Fire Protection District.

“Typically (for) the water gages on Vallecito Creek, high water is under 3,000 cubic feet per second,” said Sarah Jacobson, public information officer. “This morning it was at 6,800 cubic feet per second.”

No deaths or major injuries have been reported. Emergency responders evacuated homes in response to the flooding, which was caused by 4 inches of rain in 48 hours.
