25 years ago, the USS Cole was bombed, and Bowling Green native Bob Overturf, a sailor on the ship, recounts the events of incredible survival.
Recently navigating through the Suez Canal in the Red Sea, they stopped in Yemen to refuel. Overturf describes the scene:
Pulling into Yemen, the rocks, the mountain above the city of Yemen just look like Castle Grayskull from He-Man. It was just this ominous dark rock. No vegetation, no greenery, look like a foreign landscape. We all had a very bad feeling.
Early on, though the crew could tell something was not right.
