The idea for the MVP gimmick in WWE was inspired by an NFL star, according to former WWE creative team member Andrew Goldstein.
Goldstein revealed that Dusty Rhodes came up with the concept after being inspired by Terrell Owens, a former NFL player.
“You could just see the wheel spinning, I mean, the best example of that is MVP”
MVP was in developmental at the time, with a rudimentary version of his character. The full body suit and sports-styled presentation were brought together with the help of Rhodes' inspiration from Owens.
