Wind and Rain Warnings Issued for B.C.'s South Coast

Thursday morning brings overlapping weather warnings as strong conditions affect B.C.'s South Coast and Lower Mainland.

Rainfall Warning

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a rainfall warning for parts of Metro Vancouver, including the North Shore, Coquitlam, and Maple Ridge. Howe Sound is also included under this warning.

“An additional 20 to 40 mm of rainfall can be expected before the rain eases off later this evening,” said the ECCC.

Michael Kuss, Meteorologist at 1130 NewsRadio, notes that the rain will likely be heaviest during Thursday's afternoon commute.

The ECCC warns that water pooling on roads and in low-lying areas could significantly affect rush hour traffic, and local utility outages are possible.

Wind Warning

The agency has also issued a wind warning for Richmond, Delta, the Sunshine Coast, and much of eastern Vancouver Island.

Winds may reach speeds of 70 to 90 kilometres per hour,” according to the ECCC.

The winds are expected to ease in the evening, but residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects.

Summary

Strong wind and rain warnings for B.C.'s South Coast call for caution during peak travel times and preparedness for possible utility disruptions.
