Jaafar Jackson Stars in New Michael Jackson Biopic ‘Michael’
A new biopic titled Michael explores the life, music, and controversies of the King of Pop. Jaafar Jackson, nephew of Michael Jackson, takes on the lead role, portraying his uncle’s journey from childhood fame in the Jackson 5 to his untimely death in 2009.
The first official trailer was released on November 6 by Lionsgate and Universal Pictures. It offers a glimpse into the film’s depiction of Jackson’s career, including recording sessions with Quincy Jones, played by Kendrick Sampson. The trailer features the iconic beat of “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” as Jones’ voice is heard saying:
“I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this. The tracks are made, the songs are ready, let’s take it from the top.”
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter John Logan, known for Gladiator, The Aviator, and Hugo, the film promises a mix of dramatized scenes and recreated performances. Michael is scheduled for release on April 24, 2026.
The biopic, first announced in 2022, aims to capture Jackson’s rise to fame, his artistic legacy, and the personal challenges he faced throughout his life.
