Queensland's Cross-Border Commissioner Found Dead
Ian Leavers, Queensland's cross-border commissioner, was discovered dead at his Brisbane home on Tuesday morning. The 57-year-old was found at his residence in Mount Ommaney, in Brisbane's southwest, around 9:50 AM. Authorities are conducting an investigation but are treating the death as non-suspicious.
Career and Service
Mr. Leavers was a long-serving member of the Queensland Police Force, joining in 1989. His career spanned multiple divisions including the criminal investigation branch and the child investigation unit.
- He served as the president and CEO of the Queensland Police Union for 15 years beginning in 2009.
- From 2021, he also held a key position with the Police Federation of Australia.
- He stepped down from both roles last year.
- In August 2024, he was appointed as Queensland’s first Cross-Border Commissioner.
