On Winnipeg Jets game days, hockey writers Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe provide news, notes, and quotes from the morning skate, along with injury updates and lineup decisions. Their coverage arrives a few hours before puck drop.
The Winnipeg Jets used Saturday for reflection, and head coach Scott Arniel hopes Sunday will bring action. After a disappointing 2-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Friday night, marking their second straight defeat to open a six-game road trip, Arniel held individual meetings with all healthy players in Anaheim ahead of the game against the Ducks.
“To be straight up, I had one-on-ones with players,” Arniel told reporters at the Honda Center. “Because we have a large number of new guys and we’re teaching them as we go, I never really got a chance since training camp to say ‘OK, this is now what I expect of you.’ And to review with our players that have been here last year, touching on the things I expect from them every night.”
“Each guy knows their role, what I expect and what the coaches expect of them. So let’s go out and do it as a whole.”
An important development emerged during Sunday’s morning skate: Cole Perfetti (ankle) is set to make his season debut for the Jets after missing the first 14 games.

Coach Arniel addressed the team individually after a tough loss, emphasizing clear roles and expectations, while Cole Perfetti returns from injury for the Jets’ upcoming game.
