From a supporting character to a feminist icon, Miss Piggy is finally stepping into the spotlight with her very own Disney movie. The project is being co-produced by Golden Globe winner Jennifer Lawrence and Oscar-winner Emma Stone.
Lawrence shared the news during an interview on the Las Culturistas podcast, revealing:
“I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just gonna. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie.”
She also mentioned that actor and playwright Cole Escola, known for the Broadway hit Oh, Mary!, is writing the script. When asked whether she and Stone plan to appear in the film, Lawrence responded:
“I think so,”
and joked that it’s surprising they haven’t appeared in a movie together yet.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Lawrence described how the concept originated during the pandemic lockdown, at the height of discussions around cancel culture. She recalled a conversation with a friend:
“She said, ‘Miss Piggy is a feminist icon. It would be so funny if Miss Piggy got canceled.’”
Although that idea inspired the project, Lawrence clarified that it’s not the film’s actual plot but rather the spark that got the process started.
Miss Piggy began her career as a chorus pig on The Muppet Show in the mid-1970s and rose to stardom through the late 1970s and early 1980s. She remains a beloved pop culture figure, recognized for her dramatic flair and her long-running, sometimes turbulent relationship with Kermit the Frog.
Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are teaming up to produce a Disney film about Miss Piggy, a project born from pandemic-era inspiration celebrating the Muppet’s feminist legacy.
