Lucy Liu Debuts Her Shortest Haircut in Years

Lucy Liu has entered her lob era, unveiling a fresh short hairstyle inspired by her starring role in the upcoming drama Rosemead. The Charlie's Angels actress revealed her new look in the film's trailer, featuring a sleek side-part cut that grazes just above her collarbone.

New Look for a New Role

Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and will reach theaters on December 5. The story follows Irene (played by Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou) as they navigate life after his schizophrenia diagnosis. The film is adapted from Frank Shyong’s 2017 Los Angeles Times article titled “A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son.”

Liu on Her Transformation

“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu told Variety about the film. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”

Expanding Her Acting Range

The role represents a significant shift for Liu, who is best known for energetic, action-driven productions like Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill. During the film’s premiere at Tribeca, Liu spoke with Parade about her fascination with challenging projects that explore complex emotional and psychological landscapes.

Author’s summary: Lucy Liu surprises fans with a sleek lob haircut tied to her intense new role in Rosemead, marking a bold artistic turn in her acclaimed film career.
