Dave Franco insists his success in Hollywood wasn’t merely due to being James Franco’s younger brother, but rather the result of his own work and persistence.
“No one was going to hire me just because I was James Franco’s little brother,” he told Bustle.
Franco admitted that having a famous brother helped him enter the industry, though talent and perseverance sustained his path forward.
“If I sucked, I would’ve disappeared very quickly.”
Reflecting on their current relationship, he noted their mutual respect and support.
“At this point, I think he’s excited just to see me trying new things and to see me grow.”
Dave Franco’s first significant television role came in 2006 with an appearance in 7th Heaven. The following year, he moved into film with a part in Greg Mottola’s coming-of-age comedy Superbad.
In the early 2010s, Franco’s visibility rose thanks to roles in Fright Night, 21 Jump Street, and Now You See Me. His more recent work includes Regretting You, Together, and Love Lies Bleeding.
James Franco’s own career began with the TV series Freaks and Geeks and took off when he portrayed Harry Osborn in Sam Raimi’s 2002 blockbuster Spider-Man. He went on to appear in acclaimed titles such as Pineapple Express, Milk, 127 Hours, Spring Breakers, This Is The End, The Interview, and The Disaster Artist.
Dave Franco credits his steady success to personal effort and growth, noting that his brother’s fame opened doors but didn’t guarantee lasting success.
