The new MGM+ adaptation of Robin Hood continues to surprise audiences, as episode 2 delivers a stunning and brutal twist that leaves viewers in disbelief. The series, which released its first two episodes simultaneously, doesn’t shy away from high-stakes tension and unexpected consequences.
Rob, played by Jack Patten, flees into Sherwood Forest after clashing with the Earl of Huntingdon, portrayed by Steve Waddington. The Earl is also the man responsible for Rob’s father’s death, deepening the personal rift between them. In the forest, Rob crosses paths with the Sheriff of Nottingham’s chief guard, played by Sean Bean, who has recently been sent away for getting too close to Priscilla of Nottingham (Lydia Peckham).
What begins as an accidental meeting quickly turns violent. The chief guard challenges Rob to prove his famed archery skills: if Rob can hit a target of the guard’s choosing, he can walk free. If he fails, his weapons become the guards’ prize. Without hesitation, Rob agrees and strikes the target on his first attempt.
“Rob hits it first try. Immediately, the guards change their tune, claiming Rob has killed one of the King's deer without permission.”
This accusation escalates into a fight. In the chaos, Rob shoots the chief guard in the chest, killing him instantly. The moment shatters the delicate balance of power among Rob, the Earl, the Sheriff, and Priscilla, marking a pivotal turn in the story.
Though it shocked viewers, the episode's creator called this devastating sequence their favorite moment in the series so far, citing it as the turning point that sets the tone for everything to come.
The dramatic death in Robin Hood episode 2 transforms the show’s power dynamics and underlines its dark, unpredictable storytelling style.
