Hollow Knight: Silksong has finally been released after an astonishing 84 years of anticipation. Iain shares why this sequel from Team Cherry lived up to its famously extended development period.
Originally announced as a DLC for the challenging metroidvania set in Hallownest, Silksong was first part of a Kickstarter campaign that even included a goal for a PS Vita port. However, the project evolved into a full sequel featuring Hornet, the Knight’s occasional ally.
For many fans, the long wait felt like an elaborate prank, with release dates and gameplay trailers predicted repeatedly during events like the Game Awards, State of Play, or Xbox Showcase—only to be delayed again. When Silksong finally appeared, it was revealed as part of a Game Pass lineup scheduled for release within 12 months.
After this endless wait, Silksong launched on September 4th. Priced at $20 and available on Xbox Game Pass, it was a day-one purchase for Iain, who admits, “All I want to do is play that game.”
Set after the events of Hollow Knight, Silksong follows Hornet—the Knight’s half-sibling and a two-time boss in the original game—who is captured and taken to the kingdom of Pharloom.
“Holy crap, Hollow Knight: Silksong was worth the wait.”
Hollow Knight: Silksong’s decades-long wait ended with a rewarding sequel that deepens the story and gameplay for fans of the original metroidvania.
