Here we share another installment of reflections gathered over time, capturing moments of life’s ongoing journey. Today, I want to highlight a new member of my family—not me, nor anyone from my tribe I have written about for over 30 years. This story centers on my oldest son and the happiness he brings when embracing change.
My oldest son carries the weight of being the eldest male heir, a role filled with great responsibility. He often surprises me in ways that leave a strong impression. Though you might know him by his given name, Austin, inside our family he goes by many names. I personally call him “Bucko,” a nickname I gave him as a child after my father, as our household treasures the tradition of nicknames.
You may know him by his given name, but that is just a way we have for getting his attention. He actually answers to many names within the family, but his Christian name of Austin, or as I refer to him as Bucko.
This tradition is something we proudly uphold. For this message, I will simply refer to him as Austin. Knowing him means understanding the weight he bears and the joy he brings to our family when he makes life changes that inspire us all.
This piece celebrates the joy and responsibility found in family bonds, focusing on how my oldest son’s changes bring renewed happiness and strength to our household.
