Alberta Health Services (AHS) has officially lifted the blue-green algae advisory for Eagle Lake, located southeast of Strathmore. This change took effect on Wednesday.
The advisory was removed because the recent cooler weather has lowered the lake’s temperature, reducing the health risks associated with cyanobacteria, commonly known as blue-green algae.
Eagle Lake is situated in Wheatland County, approximately 45 minutes east of Calgary.
"Boiling does not remove the toxins" from the algae, said Alberta Health Services.
AHS advised using alternative water sources for people, pets, and livestock whenever algae are present.
