Prince Harry’s recent effort to blend in at an American sports event turned into an international incident dubbed “Hatgate.” The Duke of Sussex wore an LA Dodgers cap during the World Series while the Dodgers competed against Canada’s Blue Jays, sparking backlash in royal circles.
In an interview with CTV News, Harry attempted to calm the controversy with an apology mixed with humor:
“Oh, the LA Dodgers hat, hatgate. Firstly, I would like to apologise to Canada for wearing it.”
He explained his choice of headwear:
“Secondly, I was under duress, there wasn't much choice, I was invited to the LA Dodgers box or the dugout by the owner himself, so I thought I was doing what was the polite thing to do.”
To show goodwill, Harry wore a Blue Jays cap and promised to stick to it going forward:
“...make sure I don't make any more of those mistakes.”
True to his style, he added a self-deprecating joke about his hair:
“But the other piece to this was... when you're missing a lot of hair on top and you're sitting under floodlights, you'll take any hat that's available.”
Prince Harry’s “Hatgate” apology mixes sincere regret with humor, highlighting the challenges of royal image management in modern sports culture.
